The Dallas Museum of Art is home to some really great works of art and on the third Friday of each month, you can experience them in a whole new atmosphere. Third Fridays are for “Late Nights” at the museum. You can tour exhibits and collections, of course but there is so much more that is available.

One a recent late night visit we saw kids doing yoga, families working together to create their own art, kids interacting with exhibits, teenagers on scavenger hunts, salsa dancing, musicians performing (both classical and salsa music) and we even ate some really good food. There was so much to do it was almost overwhelming.
Late Nights are great for families because of the wide variety of kid-themed and kid-friendly activities. But I think they are great for those without kids as well. We wandered into a few galleries and found ourselves completely alone in the dim lighting, experiencing the art together in a more intimate way than we might have in the daytime. We had a delicious plate of hummus, tzatziki, kalamatta olives and couscous and a glass of wine while listening to chamber music. There is a late night tour of the galleries at 10pm and usually a movie is shown as well.

Other museums in the Dallas Arts District participate also, especially in the summer months. On some late nights you can visit several museums and choose from all kinds of activities. For us, it was a great opportunity to indulge our photography obsession and it made a great date night too. For $10 each in entry fees and under $15 for a shared appetizer and some wine it was a very affordable evening that was full of quality experiences.
